The Prophet's Game

Warren Jeffs
Warren Jeffs

Well, the trial began in the Warren Jeffs case recently, and I hope this scumbag is put away for a very long time.  I'm sure it won't stop his followers from believing and living the crap that he pushed to them for the rest of their lives, but at least he won't continue putting new children through his garbage practices.  Of course, I am not a Mormon, but the Modern LDS church has shunned the very things that his "FLDS" group does.  Jeffs is simply a ego-maniacal pervert, and all the men who follow him in practicing polygamy are perverted as well.  To call himself a "prophet" of anything is a complete and utter joke.   Those who look to him for spiritual guidance must be either  extremely gullible or extremely ignorant.
If you haven't heard of Warren Jeffs, then click the the link above and read the story.  Anyone with a brain would be outraged by what this sleaze-bag has done in the way of "spiritual guidance" of those who followed him.  If I ever saw him I would spit in his face.  That's about how much disdain I have for him.

Petty Paris

Talk about frivolous lawsuits.  Paris Hilton, of all people, suing over a parody greeting card.  Come on, that's just stupid.  To think that she would sue over something like that shows how petty some "celebrities" can be.  Not that she's famous for any kind of talent, work, or art.

I'll write later on something more worthwhile.  Or not.

QotD: This Is Classic TV

What television show stands the test of time?

I don't really care for many of the reality-type shows, but a show that I think has stood the test of time is "Cops."  People will always like to watch others get arrested or see an officer run and tackle a suspect.  The only thing viewers would like more is if they could point and laugh in the criminal's face as they are hauled off to jail.  I also think some classic game shows really stand the test of time.  Shows like "Jeopardy", "Wheel of Fortune", "The Price is Right" have been on for a long time and probably will be on for a very, very long time if not "forever."

Poor Pavarotti

Pavarotti
Pavarotti

Well, it appears that Luciano Pavarotti has left us.  The famous tenor died at the ripe old age of 71.  Well, I guess 71 isn't that old, but I believe he had some health problems, and of course his weight would be a factor.  I never listened to him sing.  Oh, I may have heard him from time to time, but I couldn't distinguish one opera singer from another.  As a matter of fact, I pretty much run from opera altogether.  I really can't stand it!  And yet, his death seems like somewhat of a loss, at least to pop culture.  I'm sure his family is grieving, as are his friends.  Although I am not one of them, I imagine he touched many people through his music.  They will miss and remember him more than I, but maybe one day I will hear his voice on the radio, and for a split second wish he were still here with us, or at least with them.

You know, . . . every once in a while you come across a man that really knows how to treat his mother.  I'm talking about a man that always show the utmost respect and care, especially when his mother is growing older, and perhaps more . . . senile, maybe.  And then there's this guy!

This "man," if you can call him that, repeatedly threatened to kidnap (catnap) his 78 year old mother's cat if she didn't give him money as "ransom."  Now I don't think I would call him a "man," but something like "ungrateful weasel" seems more fitting.  When he threatened the first time, she should have taken him over her knee and blistered his rear with a wooden paddle.

How low does a person have to sink to do something like this?  Really?

Different Things

What I say and what I do are sometimes . . . different things. I say things I want to do but don't always have the . . . drive to do them. I wanted to write about all the movies I see, but I don't really have that much to say about each one and I am too lazy to get to it anyway.

So oh well, I fell off. Who cares? Nobody! Why? Nobody reads this thing! Am I writing for my own health? Not even! This sucks! I don't get even one comment from anyone!
O.k., I ranted and raved enough today. Let's move on . . .

There's a new movie out right now called "Disturbia." Ooh, doesn't it sound scary! Uh, no. It stars Shia Labeouf, you may know him from the thirty or so things he appeared in, and David Morse, from about seventy things he's appeared in (IMDB), and looks to be a "mild" thriller. I'm not sure if I'll be seeing this movie at the theaters because, although I have before, I'm not really ambitious about going to the theaters alone.

There was a shooting at Virginia Tech this morning. What a horrible thing. There calling it one of, if not the, worst mass murder sprees ever. The details are still fuzzy I guess.

That's so far away from here in Arizona. I know that what we see on TV affects us, but I don't feel like things like that really touch my life. While I might say that's good because it's a bad situation, maybe it isn't.
There is no happiness, without tragedy.

Poseidon (2006)

I guess I thought there would be more to this movie than there was. Poseidon is a remake of The Poseidon Adventure (1972) and stars Josh Lucas and Kurt Russell. I was also glad to see Richard Dreyfuss here as well. Now, if you've ever seen the original movie, than you probably know what this movie is all about . . . running from water . . . lots and lots of water. I've seen this before and I'll probably see it again. The characters are all on a boat together, it flips, and they're going down. Then a group of people, from all different walks of life, band togother to fight their way out. Sound familiar? It's the same here, although I was hoping it wouldn't be. There isn't a whole lot to this movie, and if there's any Kurt Russell fans who think this might be a good place for him to shine, don't bother. Josh Lucas is the focus here. I was not too highly impressed with this movie, just standard Hollywood stuff, nothing exciting or overly interesting. I would watch it again if there was nothing else to do, but only if there was nothing else on television.

The Black Dahlia (2006)

I have seen documentaries about the Elizabeth Short murder and about the police working the case. I find it interesting that have still haven't solved it, even thought there are more than a few people with a pretty good idea of committed who murder. Maybe there were police mixed up in it, maybe there weren't. It don't think it will ever be solved for certain because so many people have blown smoke into the fire. The movie about this case, The Black Dahlia, starts out as an okay noir drama, but after a while the case details are so back and forth, it leaves a viewer looking for some breathing room. The movie just goes on for too long. I enjoyed the style of this film, and the 1940s' "Hollywoodland" era is always interesting, but the characters really portrayed the seedy underbelly of the city at that time. Starring Aaron Eckhart and Josh Hartnett as cops Blanchard and Bleichert on the case of the murder of starlet Elizabeth Short, The Black Dahlia is the most notorious unsolved murder in Los Angeles history. I might need to watch this film again to get all the details straight, but I don't know if I can sit for that long again.
